Designation of academic degrees
Please find below an overview of the current academic degrees, which were adopted by the FH Council based on the FHStG Amendment 2006. The new academic degrees pursuant to the FHStG Amendment 2006 were approved by the Ministery for Education, Science and Culture by letter dated 7 June 2006 (reference code BMBWK-32.000/0122-VII/2006).
The academic degrees for FH bachelor degree programmes (6 semester, first level) are as follows:

"Bachelor" + addition denoting the relevant subject group |
| Examples: |
"Bachelor of Arts in Business"; "Bachelor of Science in Engineering" |
| Abbreviated: |
"B" or "B." + abbrevation addition |
| Examples: |
"BA" or "B.A."; "BSc" or "B.Sc." |
The academic degrees for FH Master (2- 4 semester, second level) are as follows:

"Master" or "Diplom-Ingenieurin/Diplom-Ingenieur"* + addition denoting the relevant subject group |
| Examples: |
"Master of Arts in Business"; "Master of Science in Engineering" |
| Abbreviated: |
"M" or "M." + abbrevation addition |
| Examples: |
"MA" or "M.A."; "MSc" or "M.Sc.", "Dipl.-Ing." or "DI" |
Please note:
* In case of FH master degree programmes in Engineering Sciences, the applicable degrees are either "Master of Science in Engineering" or "Diplom-Ingenieurin/Diplom-Ingenieur für technisch- wissenschaftliche Berufe".
The academic degrees for FH diploma degree programmes (8 - 10 semester, second level) are as follows:

Please note:
* The academic degree "Diplom-Ingenieurin/Diplom-Ingenieur für technisch- wissenschaftliche Berufe" is for FH diploma degree programmes in Engineering Sciences .
According to the Fachhochschul-Studies Act (FHStG), the academich degrees laid down by the FH-Council are not to be translated into a foreign language. However, university of applied sciences diploma degrees (8-10 semesters, second level) have the academic value of Master's degrees, and holders are entiteld to apply for admission to a subject-relevant doctoral programme at a university.
