Key development data

The Fachhochschule Studies Act (Fachhochschul-Studiengesetz, FHStG) entered into force on 1 October 1993. The first ten FH degree programmes started in the academic year 1994/95.

Since then the FH sector has experienced a highly dynamic rate of development, which is best reflected in some key figures (as of the academic year 2010/11):

Course providing bodies:                 21
FH degree programmes:               351
Places at FH degree programmes for first year students:  about 14,500
Places at FH degree programmes:  about 37,000


99 % of the 351 offered FH degree programmes are organized within the tiered system:

FH-Bachelor degree programmes: 199
FH-Master degree programmes: 149
FH-Diploma degree programmes:     3


 47 % of the 351 offered FH degree programmes are organized part-time:

Part-time organized FH degree programmes: 97
Part-time and full-time organized FH degree programmes: 68
