The Fachhochschule Studies Act (Fachhochschul-Studiengesetz, FHStG) entered into force on 1 October 1993. The first ten FH degree programmes started in the academic year 1994/95.
Since then the FH sector has experienced a highly dynamic rate of development, which is best reflected in some key figures (as of the academic year 2010/11):
