Course-providing bodies of FH degree programmes
Course-providing bodies are institutions offering FH degree programmes or Fachhochschulen. As a rule, the course-providing bodies are legal persons under private law, organised in the legal form of limited liability companies (GmbH), as associations or charitable private foundations, and replace the government as body responsible for providing FH degree programmes.
Fachhochschulen
Not all FH institutions are already organised as Fachhochschulen. Out of a total of 20 course-providing bodies twelve are organised as Fachhochschulen pursuant to the Fachhochschule Studies Act as amended:
In accordance with the Fachhochschule Studies Act (cf. section 15 sub-sections 1 and 2 FHStG as amended) and upon application of the course-providing body, the FH Council awards to institutions the designation “Fachhochschule” by way of an administrative decision so that they can conduct FH degree programmes, provided that the following requirements are met:
- At least two degree programmes are recognised as FH Bachelor’s degree programmes with Master’s degree programmes based on it or as FH diploma degree programmes;
- A plan for the expansion of the institution concerned is available, which convincingly demonstrates that a minimum number of 1,000 student places will be reached within five years;
- A FH teaching board has been set up, which is in charge of performing and organising the lectures and examinations.
